David Chipperfield wins Pritzker Prize 2023

Speaking to CNN ahead of Tuesday's announcement, Chipperfield partly — and modestly — attributed his approach to a "lack of talent," describing himself as "not an original genius in the way some, like Frank Gehry, are." He also recognized that architects often have little choice but to stamp their identity on their work. more theguardian.com

The reuse of 633 Folsom, a commercial building in San Francisco, is a story centered on the reduction of embodied and operational carbon and the reanimation of a vital urban corridor. When a very rare full-building vacancy approached, the owner and original developer of the 1967 building turned to the design team for a renovation that would address the demands of a modern workforce and the rapidly evolving neighborhood. aia.org

Nick Luzietti
1947-2023
“BIG talent, BIG hair, BIG heart!”—that’s how editor in chief Cindy Allen remembers Luzietti, adding, “The only thing that could possibly outshine Nick’s stellar design work, was his outsized personality.”

Driven by minimalist principles and the work of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Luzietti created spaces that reflected his artistic eye, enlivening interiors with pops of bold hues and unexpected geometries. Through his work with interiors, Luzietti established his niche, finding a longtime home at VOA Associates in Chicago in the 1980s where he progressed to the role of principal. Regardless of the project at hand, Luzietti always allowed the design to reveal itself rather than forcing a concept to come to life. He once remarked that some ideas are “like a whisper” while others are more obvious and bold. more chicago.suntimes.com
