Statement:
Expo traces its beginnings to the early 1920's with its opening as San Diego Stucco Company. Inspired by the Panama-California Exposition, the name was changed to Expo Stucco Company. The Exposition was created to celebrate the opening of the Panama Canal and to bolster the local economy still shaky from the panic of Wall Street. Expo Stucco Company participated in the growth of the city during this exciting period of the city's history as a manufacturer of exterior and interior plastering products. The company expanded into large-scale distribution of drywall and related products during the 1970's under then owner Jeff Davis, grandson of Paul Gurrad, one of the original founders. Bob Papera, the company's vice president, along with some of his family members, arranged for the purchase of the company in 1982. The company continues to operate under this ownership structure today.
